Soulmate

What is a soulmate?

What is your definition of soulmate? There are quite a lot of people who talked about this. Some say you’re lucky if you have found one, some also say soulmate is the ideal partner of your life. Your soulmate understands you inside out. But what is soulmate actually mean? Do you have to be with your soulmate to be happy? Are you striving to find one? Have you found one yourself?

According to Wikipedia, soulmate is ” a term sometimes used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, friendship, love, intimacy, sexuality, and/or compatibility”
But I read this book by Elizabeth Gilbert, “Eat, Pray, Love“, and there is an interesting definition of soulmate said by her friend, Richard from Texas. He says a soulmate is someone who can tell and show the real you. Your soulmate is someone who is like a mirror. It shows who you are~~ and help you understand yourself. Not like the conventional definition where a soulmate is the one who understand you. Mm i found it interesting. Yeah, I think it would be a bless (perhaps) if you can find someone who holds up a mirror in front of you, and can tell you who you really are. But at the same time, it would be scary. Sometimes, we just don’t want to know who we really are. We hide away our qualities that we dislike, the ones that we think are inferior. We reveals those that we like, and boost up our pride.

However, fundamentally I do believe that we are all the same: we feel fear, sad, anger, jealousy, etc. Only that our habits are different. There is a poem/saying that I like. It rhymes something like this:

Be mindful of your thought, as it would become an action
Be mindful of your action, as it would become a tendency
Be mindful of your tendency, as it would be a habit
Be mindful of your habit, as it would be your character

I’m not quite sure if I’d missed a line, but it goes around like that. So — don’t be afraid to face your true color, as you might improve from there. You can eliminate the bad habits, and keep the good ones….
